Crystal Hammer

Crystal Hammer is a nice, but very tricky Breakout game. As with other Breakout games, you have to break all the bricks on screen by bouncing a ball with your paddle. The paddle is controlled by moving your mouse left or right, and if you miss hitting a ball, then you loose a life. You start the game with 8 lives, and when all lives are gone, then the game is over. Silver bricks are unbreakable, and there seems to be a LOT of unbreakable bricks in this game, which I found quite annoying. All the standard power-ups are here, such as Fire, Slow Down and Speed Up. Watch out for the black power-ups though, since they will make you loose a life. All the power-ups looked the same, but just a different colour. I suppose this fitted in with the whole Crystal theme, but it just seemed rather bland.
But let me tell you about the sound. I loved the sound! It really was like crystals being ‘clinked’ together (hence the name Crystal Hammer), and it was lovely to hear those little ‘tings’ every time you hit a brick. Another feature I liked was the moving platforms. It was quite tricky to get your ball past these platforms, and it added an extra challenge to the game. Backgrounds have an ‘Spacey’ theme, and are lovely to look at. One level even had a UFO that you had to destroy by hitting it several times. All in all, a fine game to pass an hour or two. It’s not the best Breakout game around, but still a fun game to play.
